In the browser chat, deterministic questions — substitutions, unit conversions, known recipes — are answered instantly on your device by our own AI/ML engine (C++ compiled to WebAssembly), at zero tokens. Everything else, on web and Android alike, goes to a third-party culinary LLM (via OpenRouter), which replies in clean markdown: exact ingredient tables, numbered steps, timing guides — with live web search when freshness matters.

Is it free?
Yes — guests get 1 free chef answer (the on-device engine keeps helping after it), a free account gets 15 chef messages every day, and all kitchen tools stay free. Premium ($12.99/month) raises the chat limit to 90 messages a day for daily cooks. Sign-up is optional and only stores your history and saved recipes.
Who answers my questions?
In the browser chat, deterministic questions — substitutions, unit conversions, known recipes — are answered instantly on your device by our own AI/ML engine (C++ compiled to WebAssembly, plus JavaScript) at zero tokens. Everything else goes to a third-party culinary LLM (through OpenRouter), which answers with clean, structured markdown — tables, steps, timings. When the question needs fresh facts (prices, seasonality, recalls), the server searches the web and cites sources. The Android app uses the same chef, with its own on-device engines as the fallback if the server is unreachable.
Can I send a photo or speak instead of typing?
Yes. Attach one image per message (a fridge shelf, an ingredient label) and the chef will understand it. The mic button turns your speech into text right in the input box, on web and Android.
Is there an Android app?
Yes. My Royal Chef has a native Android app (not a web wrapper) with the same chef chat, 342+ recipes, substitutions, and flavor pairing. It syncs with your account and picks up new recipes automatically. Download the APK.
Can I save recipes?
